Airway
At Mint Hill Orthodontics, all new and current patients are screened for airway related problems such as Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Sleep Disturbed Breathing (SDB). Our physician colleagues, specifically Ear, Nose, and Throat Physicians, are the most qualified to diagnose and treat sleep apnea and other airway disturbances. As Orthodontists, our role is to help refer patients with specific problems to our ENT colleagues for assessment and treatment.
Can orthodontics help?
There is good research indicating that some orthodontic therapies in specific cases can improve nasal breathing, tongue space, etc. and help improve breathing. Sleep issues can be complex and difficult to diagnose which is why we take every precaution and take advantage of our ENT colleague’s expertise. Proper diagnosis and planning leads to better, more focused treatment every time.
